New Xbox Game Pass games (October 2024): What's coming, leaving soon (2024)

It's a new month, which means new Xbox Game Pass games!

Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and the all-encompassing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate each provide numerous perks to subscribers, including unlimited access to the best Xbox Game Pass games and many more. It's often considered to be one of the greatest values in the video game industry, and Xbox is intent on driving that idea home with new additions to the services every single month.

Xbox Game Pass Core and Standard is available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One consoles. PC Game Pass is available on Windows PCs. Xbox Cloud Gaming grants remote access to hundreds of titles on practically any device through streaming. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, as the name implies, is the quintessential subscription that includes all the aforementioned services, online multiplayer, exclusive perks, and EA Play access. With new games arriving all the time, it can be easy to lose track of new additions.

Here's every single game leaving the service, as well as all the new Xbox Game Pass games right now. This list isn't as applicable to Xbox Game Pass Core and its curated library of Xbox games, but you can still keep up to date with all the titles available in the main Xbox Game Pass catalog. Xbox Game Pass: Best new games this month

Say hi to the best recent Xbox Game Pass games. You'll rarely go wrong with the diverse selection of games on Xbox Game Pass, but there are always a handful of titles that stand above the rest — including, but not limited to, exceptional indie games, addictive multiplayer games, expansive AAA games, and Microsoft's first-party titles and projects. These are the best new games that have recently arrived on Xbox Game Pass that you shouldn't hesitate to play.

Ara: History Untold

• Available: Sept. 24 — Windows PC (Ultimate & PC)

I'm sensing a theme with the latest batch of additions to our best Xbox Game Pass picks, with the service going on something of a strategy streak lately. Ara: History Untold is a brand-new franchise published by Xbox Game Studios in the popular and competitive 4X grand strategy genre, with studio Oxide Games aiming to innovate with new features, gameplay mechanics, and approaches.

In my Ara: History Untold review, I compared the game frequently to the Civilization franchise, with Ara coming out on top in the end. I concluded that, "It's a gorgeous and polished turn-based strategy game that hooks you with "one more turn" and keeps you hooked with its flexible and varied strategy gameplay." Ara: History Untold embraces player creativity with dynamic prestige and crafting systems, helping it stand out even when surrounded by genre legends.

The game isn't entirely perfect, as I wished for more political and narrative depth and fewer food shortages in the final act, but Ara: History Untold has a very bright future ahead of it. The game is now available on Windows PC through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and while an Xbox console port isn't out of the question in the future, nothing has been confirmed yet.

Frostpunk 2

• Available: Sept. 20 — Windows PC (Ultimate & PC)

Next up, we have the long-awaited sequel to the original Frostpunk, a dark city-building survival game that will push you to the limits. Frostpunk 2 is an ambitious follow-up that builds and evolves the original formula to previously unreached heights, and it does so with apparently great success. In our Frostpunk 2 review, our Samuel Tolbert concluded "Frostpunk 2 pushes the boundaries on what a city-building game and a survival experience can be."

Frostpunk 2 is a challenging survival-meets-strategy game in which you build and manage a city of world-weary survivors in a frozen, post-apocalyptic world. It's not just managing the city that matters, too, as you'll have to use your wits and resources to navigate a complex story and narrative events, injecting political obstacles and impossible choices into the mix.

Frostpunk 2 is now available for Windows PC on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and is expected to arrive on Xbox Series X|S consoles at some point in the future.

Age of Mythology: Retold

• Available: Sept. 4 — Xbox Series X|S Optimized, Windows PC, & Xbox Cloud Gaming (Standard, Ultimate, & PC)

Age of Mythology is the oft-forgotten sibling of the legendary Age of Empires real-time strategy franchise, but it's still a fascinating alternative with a shifted gameplay focus. Now, years later, Age of Mythology has returned as a "Retold" remake from World's Edge at Xbox and all its partner studios. It's a brilliant remaster that preserves the feel of the original while updating its visuals, gameplay mechanics, quality-of-life, and accessibility.

World's Edge took everything it learned from Age of Empires and incorporated those lessons here, resulting in one of the most refined RTS games you'll find anywhere. It's also fully available on Xbox Series X|S with surprisingly excellent controller support — yes, that also means it plays wonderfully on gaming handhelds like the ASUS ROG Ally.

If you're pining for a more fantastical real-time strategy that evolves the classic Age of Empires formula, Age of Mythology: Retold is worth checking out for sure. Xbox Game Pass: All known upcoming launch games

Microsoft gives us updates on games heading to Xbox Game Pass a few weeks before those games become available, usually twice a month. However, Xbox and ID@Xbox events toss aside this expectation to announce a flurry of games that are hitting Xbox Game Pass day and date, meaning they're launching into the service when they land on Xbox platforms. That means day one access to all of these games for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, including some of the best upcoming Xbox games.

Many of these games are far enough out that they don't even have a release date, and we're not certain exactly which platforms they'll come to through Xbox Game Pass. Still, this list in our Xbox Game Pass guide will give you an idea of what to look out for in the future of Xbox Game Pass. We'll constantly update this list as we get new information about release dates, when games become available, and what platforms are getting them.
